L'idea è quella di tele-guidare rover ed altri strumenti di esplorazione. Già oggi, rover e sonde sono comandati da Terra e ciascuno di questi ha un proprio grado di autonomia nello svolgere i propri task. Compiti complessi richiedono un "livello di intelligenza" altrettanto complesso, che solo parzialmente è ottenibile con le attuali tecnologie software di Intelligenza Artificiale.

I test di cui parliamo in questo articolo sono particolari. Nell'ambito del NASA Surface Telerobotics exploration concept, un astronauta a bordo della Stazione Spaziale Internazionale ha guidato remotamente un robot che si trovava sulla Terra.

The harvest will arrive - in it's own time - you don't see the farmer planting a seed in the field and then going out the next day and looking for the fruit of the vine. Breathing is a great way to encourage patience and discourage anxiety and fear from creeping in when you wonder if you are ever going to make it to the peak or if you are going to go slipping away and crash and burn in a devastating heap! Just keep breathing.

When your own initial burst of excitement has burnt itself out - you need friends, partners, mentors, colleagues, coaches, trainers, and masterminders to help you to continue to move forward into your becoming - into your dreams and into the service that you were born to deliver into the world.

This is the most important time to LOOK AROUND and to SEE exactly who you have in your life- are the people around you your cheerleaders? Are you surrounded by folks who want the very best for you? Do you have anyone on your team who can offer a CONSTRUCTIVE view of where you might have some (or even many) weaknesses in your plan? Are there people in your circle who have already succeeded in doing something similar to what you are trying to accomplish.

The birds are squawking outside my window this morning - crows I think - reminding me to remind you that "Birds of a feather flock together" - so take a GOOD LONG LOOK at who you are "flocking" with. If you are challenged to move forward in your work - perhaps you've been spending too much time with the naysayers and it's time to look elsewhere - to look to create relationships with people who you wish to emulate - to engage in activities that are going to grow you, expand your mind about what is possible and provide a container of mutual support within which to investigate just where you might need some additional help to strengthen your own areas of weakness.

Detach from Drama - drama just sucks up your life force - your energy and it makes you lose focus on what is truly important to you. If you are surrounded by a lot of drama - ask yourself - what within me is ready to die to all this so that I can actually create something beautiful, sustainable and transferable that will serve not only myself but also the people I am here to serve and perhaps even future generations. Who is out there that is doing what I want to do? Go out there and start "flocking" with them - sooner or later Success Rubs Off. Seriously!

Perception Is Projection By Linda Cattelan

Why is it that two people watching the same accident have two totally different accounts of what just occurred? They both saw the same accident-yet, they processed two very different versions.

According to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in the book Flow: The Psychology Of Optimal Experience, we take in 2 million pieces of information per second, yet we can only process 134 bits per second. How then do we determine which 134 bits of information to focus on? We choose those 134 bits of information based on our values, beliefs, attitudes, past experiences, memories and how we process information.

To illustrate this point, let?s have some fun.
? Look around the room you are currently in and notice all the items in the room that are colored white (for some of you this might be easy, for others you may have to really look carefully for "white" items).
? Now, close your eyes and try to remember all the items in the room that were the color "black". Notice how challenging this task is given that I directed you to look for the colour "white".
? Now, open your eyes and look around the room and notice just how many "black" colored items you missed when asked to recall them. There are just as many "black" items now that you are noticing them as there was when you were only searching "white" items. The only thing that changed was the focus you were giving to the two different colours.

This is just one example of how differently two people might see their respective worlds.

How do you see the world?
? Are you a glass half full person or are you a glass half empty person?
? What is the first thing you see, hear or feel in any situation?
? Are you looking for and noticing the positive side of things or do you gravitate towards the negatives, the risks and what is wrong with the situation.

Both scenarios are present ? the positive and the negative-you, the observer, gets to choose how to interpret the situation.

Oh sure, you have your reasons for seeing things a certain way. We all have baggage we carry around with us that affects how we view the world. To quote Dr. Phil, "how is that working for you?" If it's working and you are truly happy in every area of your life, great. However, if there is any area of your life that isn?t working, look at how you might change your perception of the situation so that you are experiencing the most positive 134 bits out of the 2 million bits of information available.

Here are 5 steps to help you more positively focus your attention:
1. Ask yourself? What perspective you are currently holding as you evaluate a particular situation.
2. Ask yourself? What other perspectives are possible that you may not have considered to this point.
3. Ask yourself? Which perspective would offer you the best and highest positive potential for an optimal outcome.
4. Holding the best and highest positive potential perspective? What are some actions you could take.
5. Go ahead and take positive action!

Your world is a mirror that reflects back to you what you are seeing, hearing, feeling and sensing. Your perception truly is a projection of what is going on in your inner world. Here?s the good news-you get to choose how you interpret any situation. So choose wisely.

Self-Control for Self Improvement

If you are a self-starting businessperson or have an artistically driven mind, then you may not feel as if you belong to any community. Your concern is not with morals but with success. So how does the concept of self-control fit into this equation? First understand that everyone has a system of belief. Nobody truly believes in nothing; otherwise that person would live entirely on animalistic instinct. All human beings (even the slow ones that repeatedly get ticketed for drunk driving) have logical thought processes. Hence, we all have a system of belief. Before you analyze what self-control means to you, you must first analyze what you believe. You must work to maintain self-control to meet the standard that you have set for yourself.

Taking Back Control

If you find that procrastinating slows down your mission, or that watching television alters your set schedule, then you may have to use coercive techniques in order to train your body and mind. Science supports this theory, as even some highly intelligent people have been shown to lack motivation, especially when it comes to certain tasks. If you are a creative type that despises logistical or mathematic work, or a convergent thinker who has trouble thinking outside the box, then this can be challenging to your mission. Self-control doesn?t necessarily mean resisting something that is "wrong"; rather, it refers to taking steps to control one?s own tendencies if they are observed to be counterproductive. It may help you to slow down your "intake" or "output" (whatever the problem is) rather than to quit suddenly. Don?t underestimate the value of enlisting others to help you. Once you determine to follow your goal through you must make necessary changes. Last but not least, remember to analyze your results and find room for improvement. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small. It is about making progress in life that brings us the success we want and deserve.

Being in the USA around Thanksgiving has taught me a lot about the importance of taking time for reflection and gratitude for the people (and animals) in your life, for what you have, for what you do and for the beauty that surrounds you.

How often do you do this in your life?

You know, appreciation is not just an annual event. It is a conscious state of mind and the more gratitude we have the more we receive. It is a Universal Law!

Showing appreciation is such a simple thing to do and can mean so much to the person on the receiving end. Appreciation is such an important motivator for us yet in the hustle and bustle of busy life we forget to pause to take a moment to be grateful and communicate our appreciation for those around us.

It is not about promotions and pay rises, these are extrinsic and soon forgotten. Appreciation is about demonstrating that you care. Make it a regular practice, as you go through your daily life.

Here is what gratitude is all about.

If you look back through your life it is those people who believed in you, made you feel special, or have helped you grow and learn.

Mrs. May, my primary school Headmistress was my first role model. She touched my life briefly for 4 years, when I was 5 - 9 years old. She genuinely cared for her pupils and made us feel appreciated and special from day one. She only touched my life briefly, but in those moments, she gave me confidence to navigate through my primary school years. I will never forget her.

Why not make appreciation a habit?

Having a daily ritual of reflection is a great way to create a habit of appreciation. My coach taught me this:

Every evening before I go to bed I write down at least five things: These are people, things, animals or experiences that I am grateful for. I stop to pause and be thankful for how each one touched my life that day and how they have enriched my life.

This practice reminds me to communicate my genuine appreciation to others by sending an email, a card, some flowers, making a donation or taking time to phone someone to say thank you.

It is a great habit to practice each day!

Take a moment today to consider what you are grateful for. As Albert Schweitzer says, it's all about lighting the flame within us and sharing its warmth.

Have you noticed that no one talks much about perfectionism anymore?

My business coaching clients used to tell me their compulsion to do everything perfectly was getting in the way of their success. But these days, with the fast pace of life, the constant stream of information, and the increased workload on everyone?s desks, our struggle for perfectionism seems to have largely disappeared. It?s not that people are feeling guilty or making excuses about not being perfect. It?s just gone from the conversation.

As Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg famously puts it: "Done is better than perfect."

So if we?re no longer chasing perfection, what should we strive for in its place? Here are six alternative ideals to which my clients are now turning their attention. You can, too.

Persistence. Successful people don?t get that way overnight. Instead, they create a plan and continually chip away at it. They break their goals into annual, monthly, weekly, and daily actions. Even if each day?s activities aren?t completed, these folks get back in the saddle the next day, ready to keep moving forward.What do you do to maintain your persistence?

Pacing. Sam, a hard-charging manager at a small company in New Hampshire, planned on retiring in five years. But when he met with a financial planner, he found out he was going to have to work eight more years in order to meet his goals. Sam realized there was no way he?d last eight years at his breakneck pace. Now we?re discussing how he can adjust his work habits so he can continue at his job enjoyably and healthfully. Do a double-check: does your pace match your goals?

Possibility. We?re all creatures of habit. We eat the same breakfast, take the same route to work, do the same things day in and day out. Today, make a point of trying something new and different. What gets your energy up? What has you thinking new thoughts? Coffee? Brain teasers? Collaboration with your colleagues? Where in your life are you taking time to think about what?s possible?

Play. Successful people take breaks during their day. Even if it?s only for a stretch or a short walk, they stop working for a few minutes and move their bodies. Increased circulation in your body means better blood flow to your brain, which produces clearer thinking. If you tend to sit glued to your desk for hours at a time, think about how you can build play into your day.

Power. We?re all naturally more skilled at certain activities than others. Are you a born communicator? A numbers whiz? As much as possible, do the type of work that plays to your strengths. While no one can (or should) elect to do only what comes easily, you?ll achieve more and go farther if you pursue the things you?re good at.

Positivity. You know the old saying: you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. People are attracted to people who are positive. Put a mirror on your desk so that when you pick up the phone, you?re reminded to smile. It sounds corny, but that attitude really does translate over the phone.

Need one more goal to replace perfectionism? How about pleasure? Think about what part of your job you really enjoy, and try to spend more time doing it. When your work aligns with your interests and values, it makes you feel good. And there?s no better definition of success than truly loving what you do.

Designing a Process for Success- Applying Chemical Engineering to Business, Part Two

In my article, "Life's Lessons as a Square: Applying Chemical Engineering to Business (Part One)", I talked about how my degree in chemical engineering relates to me as an entrepreneur. So, how do you design a process for success?

This might seem obvious, but, believe or not, people try to skip over the "make it or break it" piece.

What's the "make it or break it" piece?

You must be crystal clear on what you want your end product to be.

I hear you. You're thinking, "I already know that." But do me a favor; stop and really think about it. What EXACTLY do you want your end product to be... the product that's going to make THE difference for you and your clients? Because if you're not precise, who knows what it'll turn out to be!

We all know the story of the entrepreneur who becomes a huge success, only to realize it wasn't what he truly wanted. So please, spend some time and think hard about what your end product will be. Go to your favorite coffee hang out, journal, meditate, or take a mini vacation (if only for the day). Do whatever it takes until you have clarity. Because once you've solved that piece of the equation, you're ready to figure out what elements you need to produce it.

Take my company, Wasabi Publicity, for example. The product we want to produce is media placements that thrill our clients. See? It's specific. Not just any media placements. Our clients want media placements that will make a difference. Period. You know that old adage, any PR is good PR? Well, our clients generally don't see it that way.

The key to success is being very specific about the product you're committed to producing. Because if you're not specific, you probably won't design the right processes. And vice versa: without the right processes, you won't produce the right product!

So, how do you get from where you are now to your end product? Well, you know where you are now and you (should now) know where you want to get, right? All you have to do it design the process. When Michelle and I first started our company, we began by looking at all the elements essential for our success. And yes, there were many, many different processes out there. But we wanted to figure out which key elements WE needed to produce THE product (great media placements that thrill our clients).

Many factors contribute to our success, but three ingredients are absolutely essential: the right pitch, to the right media, at the right time. Bingo.

Once we were clear about the key ingredients essential to produce thrilling media placements, we reverse engineered the process to get from where we were at that point, to where we wanted to go.

So what does that look like?

In order to create the perfect pitch, we knew we needed to hire creative geniuses with an eye for what the media wants. We then designed a simple structure of regular meetings so our creative team can brainstorm. When we land on a winner, one of our writers takes the idea and creates a pitch that will wow the media. Voila, we have the right pitch.To identify the right media, we have two processes: first, we research media venues to make sure each one reaches our client's target market (so that each placement makes a difference), and second, we build relationships with those journalists so they'll take our calls.You know the old expression, "Timing is everything?" Well, that's generally the case in business and it's definitely the case in PR. So, how do we time it just right? It's actually pretty simple. We ask ourselves why the media should care about our pitch right now. There could be several reasons: it's seasonal (winter is coming and our client has a new solar heating system); it's breaking news (there's something happening and our client has something to say about it that'll make a difference to the conversation); or it's simply something a journalist is personally passionate about and he/she thinks it would add value for their viewers, readers, or listeners.

There you have it. Right pitch + Right media + Right time = Success.

These ingredients produce the desired end products for us: media placements that thrill our clients.

The great thing is that you can design a process for any product you want to produce, for any business. This is so powerful because most entrepreneurs and businesses get stuck because they make whatever is going on in their business personal. It might not be personal at all. It might just be that there's a flaw in their design - too much of this ingredient, not enough of that ingredient, too much heat (aka trying too hard), or not enough heat. You get the point.

So if you're not getting the product your customer wants, it might be time to put on your chemical engineering hat and redesign your process.
